I tweaked the letter and sent it last night, but for all the good it will do.  It’s a safe bet to assume their mailboxes were flooded with emails, all with the subject “RE:MTV'S 'TRUE' MADE ME LOSE MY APPETITE”, and I imagine they were all simply deleted.

I didn’t watch the show, and apparently I was rather naïve to believe MTV would produce an honest and sensitive look at living with obesity.  It would seem I was a lil to harsh on Linda Stasi as she only had this episode for research.

What makes life even more pleasant, besides the fact that stickin up for the lil guy is almost as successful as nailing Jello to the wall, are the comments on the board after the episode had aired.  The high and mighty elephants struggle to lift their bulbous tonnage to full height and declare “they” have thoroughly researched this surgery and will change their habits before going under the knife.  Apparently these are the unwritten rules we all must comply too.  Once again, I suppose I’m naïve in trying to give young Corey the benefit of the doubt.

“Tsk, tsk, tsk,” they say, “He’ll most assuredly be a failure.” And folks are feverishly ramming their hands down their pants in expectation.

After hearing of Marlon Brando’s death I knew I must stay as far away from the boards as possible.  For surely as the sun will rise, folks will chastise him for being overweight, and even some of the true intellectuals will enquire, “How come he just didn’t have the surgery?”

For a community that’s held together by an empathic understanding of obesity and all that it entails, I find it interesting there’s still that desperate need to better than the person you’re standing next to.

But who am I to judge?  I think I’m better than most of you on here.  No wait, that’s not entirely true.  I KNOW I’m better than most of you.
